5 Sanity Savers for Finals Prep and Job Hunting
Written by: Gabriella LoBue, MS Business Analytics, Dec 2019
The end is near, and as many students begin preparing in the final weeks of the semester, it can be stressful to continue the job search for a Spring or Summer position. Regardless of what classes, student organizations, projects or current internships you’re involved in right now, how can you best manage your workload and keep your cool?
Planning ahead is king
If you don’t already, now would be a great time to start making a habit of outlining what needs to be done! Whether you write it down in an agenda book or keep track of your to-do’s in the cloud, make note of everything that is due from now until the end of the semester and plan out when you’d like to work on each task. This way, you’ll have some structure to your productivity and you can block out times to continue applying in between.
Sooner rather than later
Procrastination is an easy trap to fall into for short-term gratification, but avoid this like the plague. The sooner you apply for that job or the sooner you start that assignment, the sooner you’ll feel better when it’s finally over. Remove that weight off your shoulders now so there’s less to worry about later!
Work smarter not harder
Time is of the essence, but fortunately, there are resources you can use to be more efficient. Set job alerts for websites like Indeed or LinkedIn to save time on searching for the latest opportunities. Rather than guessing what might be asked during your next interview, use Big Interview to get hands-on practice based on your industry and experience level. Whatever task you have, there’s probably an app or service that can help you get it done!
Come see GBCS!
If you feel like you’re spinning your wheels when writing a cover letter or if you’re stressing out about an upcoming interview, make an appointment at GBCS! Our department wants to help aid your search process and there are many resources we can provide to do just that, including mock interviews, resume and cover letter critique.
Don’t forget to breathe
This time of the year can be overwhelming, to say the least, but it’s important to stay motivated and productive. The best way to do this is to make sure you take time for yourself. Whether you prefer working out, reading, drawing, or just hanging out with friends, it’s important you schedule time to rejuvenate and avoid burnout.
